The Platform
Youtube is a global online video-sharing and social media platform, it was first introduced in 2005 and is owned by Google. It’s the #2ndMostVisitedWebsite worldwide used by 2.514 billion users around the world after the google search engine.
Youtube over the years successfully paved the road for many content creators and artists to share their art, music, tutorials, and more with people all over the world, turning artists into famous “Youtubers” that are now wildly loved and are being subscribed/followed” and admired by their fans globally.
Social media platforms are now in a tech revolution war with the need to introduce new features, even ones that don’t quite work with their user usage or strategy. Youtube, however somehow took a step back in the midst of this war in comparison to other social media platforms, like Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, etc.
accessibility features
Youtube recently announced that they are now in the testing phase of allowing content creators and artists to upload videos with multiple audio tracks, essentially allowing creators and giving them the capacity to overdub their videos or create new tracks for different regions. This feature is expected to roll out through the next couple of quarters.
This feature could potentially allow global companies or creators with wide audiences to centralize their content on one account, rather than having separate, localized channels for different regions, by adding multiple audio tracks to their videos.
“Improving accessibility is a top priority for YouTube, and we hope these updates will help creators reach a wider audience.”
“(This) will help provide multi-language audio for international audiences as well as descriptive audio for people who are blind or low-vision. ”
The company wrote in a recent blog post.
Automation features
The social media platform also plans on making automatic live captioning available in English for all users around the world and will then begin rolling out the automatic captions in 12 more languages over the coming months, allowing a wider audience to take part in this new feature.
Profitable features
Youtube announced this month that they will expand their creator music options to all creators in the US.
Creator Music provides the content creators with a playlist of soundtracks that they are licensed to use in their videos giving ownership and music rights to the audio and video makers for a small fee. This feature allows for the expansion of the music library on youtube worldwide while giving a chance for creators to earn money on the application.
GAME-CHANGER
It seems that Youtube is emulating Netflix’s strategy and stepping up its multilingual content accessibility as well. This feature along with the other features proposed could be a game-changer for the social media platform and will help creators reach new users around the world.
