McDonald’s teamed up with Crocs for the company’s first ever global shoe collaboration. This collaboration not only allowed enthusiasts to rejoice but McDonald’s is donating to the Ronald McDonald House Charities in honor of this partnership. This collaboration includes a full line of shoes, socks, and Jibbitz charms which are available on crocs.com, Crocs retail locations, and select wholesale partners. There are only limited quantities for each item category and McDonald’s management have stated they will not be in stock for long once released as this is only a limited-edition collaboration.
This global marketing campaign between McDonald’s and Crocs is aimed at driving connectivity and efficiency worldwide (Kelso, 2023). For the past couple of years McDonald’s has focused on national marketing rather than global and management recently decided to shift their focus to a global scale. While pushing their “One McDonald’s Way” strategy in hopes to bring connectivity and awareness to the brand, the company has been partnering with brands like FIFA in hopes of accomplishing just that. With this shoe collaboration being publicized worldwide, McDonald’s and Crocs had agreed to sell direct to consumers by using global channels like crocs.com and Crocs retail stores. Crocs also has contracts with wholesalers who can sell this limited-edition merchandise.
With the merchandise price ranging from $20-$75 (Kelso, 2023), enthusiasts can purchase these one-of-a-kind items at a reasonable price. McDonald’s is a brand that is recognized worldwide and partnering with trendy companies like Crocs allows them to expand not only internationally but also creates differentiation within their market. McDonald’s may be known for their famous golden arches, but they are also known for their creative campaigns, catchphrases like “I’m Lovin’ It” and their global reach. Having a global reach such as McDonald’s allows the company to have many different channels to market their products. The company can sell direct to consumers as they own their own stores, have access to advertise the brand in any capacity and are able to collaborate with brands like Crocs to create new partnerships.
McDonald’s is committed to expanding their reach through global marketing strategies like creating new partnerships with international brands and expanding their collaboration network. This will not only allow the brand to gain more exposure but will inspire innovation and deepen customer loyalty globally. While the McDonald’s x Crocs merchandise are not my style, I am excited to see what comes next from McDonald’s and how they can use their influence on an international scale.
