There’s a New Wedding Registry in Town!

Welcome to the club, Etsy! Known as the online destination for handmade and unique gifts, Etsy has launched its wedding registry following an increase of wedding gift searches. This comes at an opportune time as Bed, Bath, & Beyond has filed for bankruptcy. Note that at one time, BB&B was the absolute leader in the wedding registry service! Wow, how times change. As Millennials and even Gen-Z gear up for weddings, possibly even their own, it seems that this target market seeks individual, unique, and handcrafted products rather than the usual mass market bedding, kitchen appliances, and more.

Etsy’s wedding registry works like any other registry service. You make an account, make your wishlist, and viola! You get your vintage, custom, and unique gifts sent to you! According to Retail Dive, Etsy committed to a wedding registry as “the platform has seen an 872% spike in handmade gift searches in the last three months compared to the same period in 2022.”

As mentioned prior, there has been huge changes in the wedding industry. Not only has Bed, Bath, & Beyond has filed for bankruptcy, but so has David’s Bridal. Etsy is taking advantage in the breakdown of these possibly outdated stores and is entering as a fresh, new, & evolved option for all your wedding needs. And guess what? Etsy also sells economical wedding dresses, too! Watch out world, Etsy just might become a wedding industry disrupter!

Etsy has been around since 2005, so I guess the only shock is waiting almost 20 years to start a wedding registry service! However, one could say they are coming at a perfect time as Etsy has completely solidified itself in the market as the destination for one-of-a-kind products and gifts. “We believe that our disciplined investment approach can enable above e-commerce industry growth and best-in-class profitability on average and over time,” says Rachel Glaser, CFO at Etsy. Also, it goes far deeper than BB&B and David’s Bridal. Lord & Taylor, Barney’s, and all these “old school” companies are shutting down. If this isn’t a sign that a new generation is taking over, I don’t know what is! Would you create a wedding registry on Etsy?

Wow, didn’t know Etsy has this option now! I enjoy Etsy and like trying to find more customizable gifts for holidays and birthdays on the site and this option will be a nice addition. I didn’t know David’s Bridal filed for bankruptcy, but there are more options from other brands. When I bought bridesmaids dresses there, I was surprised that they didn’t have more options.

Wow! Etsy is a great place to explore a wide variety of products from house hold items to jewellery! And since it has so many customizable products to choose from, it is great for wedding gifts!
