When it comes to using social media to market a brand, it’s essential for the brand to have a distinct voice that consumers will remember, or something unique about the brand that stands out amongst the millions of other accounts online. With that said, here are a few brands on social media with a distinct brand voice and personality!
Savannah Bananas: First up is the Savannah Bananas, a baseball team that is known for dance challenges that players have done both on and off the field. The video on the top is the original video, and the one on the bottom is a response from the brand account to another user’s comment.
Latching on to online trends is one part of maintaining popularity, but videos like the one on the bottom where the brand is responding to a comment with another video it filmed of the player in a flowy dress shows that the brand is actively listening to its followers and quite literally giving them the content they are asking for. It’s worth mentioning that the video is well-produced, which shows that there is a lot of effort being put into even 32-second videos for TikTok, because if the content is doing well, it’s worth investing time and effort into making the videos look great!
Duolingo: Duo the Owl has been making the rounds for the past several years for being hilarious online in promoting its language learning app, Duolingo. Leaning into humor like in this TikTok and not being afraid to go all out like in this year’s April Fools Day prank are ways to establish a clear brand personality and it makes marketing all the more fun. In the April Fools Day video, Duolingo and Peacock “have teamed up for an April Fools’ Day prank that seems to promote a too-absurd-to-be-true reality show, but really offers discounts on Peacock and Duolingo” (Lafayette, 2023). Because of the high production value and the Peacock account tag, the trailer seems extremely real. Not being afraid to push the envelope and create a big moment on social media can work really well, and this was definitely talked about a lot.
Lionsgate: Lionsgate promotes not only new content, but also its library of titles that have come out a long time ago, including fan favorites such as Twilight. The numerous Twilight videos it has posted with trending audios and funny captions show it isn’t afraid to get humorous with it.
This is a smart social media marketing move for companies that also have a lot of products that they may want to remind people of. Even though trends come and go quickly, that doesn’t always necessarily mean you have to use the trend for a product or service that just came out. Whether it’s a movie that came out a while back or a collection of items from several months ago, you can use trends to make these less new items become trendy again.
There are so many ways for brands to develop and cement their brand voices and personalities online, and it can be a fun process to explore!
